Faculty Profile

Nicholas Liu teaches and researches in the areas of private law (especially torts) and legal philosophy. He is particularly interested in the role of private law as a tool of governance, and his current research examines the theoretical bases of tort law and how traditional tort doctrines can provide solutions to contemporary challenges. He teaches a range of Undergraduate and Masters courses including The Law of Torts, Legal Theory & Philosophy, Legal Research & Writing, Advanced Law of Obligations, and Advanced Legal Analysis & Advocacy. As an educator, he is interested in exploring new ways of incorporating oral discussions and oral argument into coursework as a key to preserving independent and original thought in the age of generative AI. He is also active in moot coaching and has coached teams to victory in various competitions, including the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in 2025.
